The basic vehicle liability insurance covers liability of the owner, i.e. the vehicle user and the insurer must pay damages if the following occurred during vehicle use:
- personal injury, damage to health or death of third parties
- destruction or damage of property owned by third parties, except in case when the vehicle owner received such property for transport
Vehicle liability insurance allows the injured party to request appropriate compensation directly from the insurer, and also provides financial protection for the owner or the user of the vehicle who caused the damage.
For travel to some foreign countries, it is required to have vehicle liability insurance outside of the Republic of Croatia. The certificate of such insurance is the so-called Green Card.
