Frequently asked questions

Google Pay works on Android mobile devices running Lollipop 5.0+ or higher. The mobile phone must have the NFC technology with an unmodified version of the Android operating system. The client must set up a screen lock on his device.

The options to unlock the screen include: password, pattern, fingerprint, or face scan. If screen lock is not set up, it will not be possible to add a card to Google Pay.

If you remove the screen lock option or in case of any unauthorized modifications made to the operating system used on the device, the cards added to Google Pay will automatically be deactivated and payments using the application will be disabled. The number of cards that can be stored in Google Pay is unlimited. One and the same card can be stored in more than one Google Pay applications on different devices.

No fees are paid for using the Google Pay service.
The limits that apply to the card added in Google Pay are the same as the limits that apply to your physical card. This means that you can use Google Pay for payments up to the daily limit arranged for your physical card.
If a physical card added to Google Pay is blocked, it will also be blocked in Google Pay. However, if a card is blocked in Google Pay, it does not necessarily mean that the physical card will be blocked as well.

Google Pay protects your data with multiple layers of security using a modern safety infrastructure to maintain user safety.

When payment is made, only the encrypted virtual card is exchanged, not the actual card data. In this way, it is ensured that no one can retrieve the actual card data from the mobile device in case of loss.

You can use Google Pay in all stores that accept contactless payments and in online stores that offer the possibility of paying via Google Pay. To make payments at payment terminals, you don't need to access the application.

All you need to do is unlock the screen of your mobile device and hold the mobile phone with the NFC turned on against the payment terminal inside the store that accepts contactless payments.

Google Pay functions differently than the contactless card, in whose case cardholders are required to enter their PIN on the POS terminal to authorize payment of higher amounts.
Google Pay uses strong customer authentication in accordance with the PSD2 Directive, which protects your payment data with multiple layers of security.
Before making a payment, you must verify your identity by unlocking the screen of your mobile device in any of the following 3 ways: by entering a password or pattern or, if using biometric authentication, the chosen biometric characteristic (e.g. face scan or fingerprint).
In doing so you verify your identity and you no longer need to enter your PIN on the POS terminal.
The act of unlocking your mobile device before executing a transaction is a unique and unambiguous authentication method and serves as an unquestionable proof that the device user is the one using the virtual card in Google Pay, i.e. the one authorizing the transaction.
Only the owner of the device should know the correct password or pattern or, if biometric authentication is used, enter his/her chosen biometric characteristic (e.g. face scan or fingerprint) and not someone else’s, just as he/she should never disclose his/her PIN to anyone else.

In case you lose your mobile device:
• you can locate it and protect it using the following Google service: mydevices.google.com,
• you can access Google Pay via your computer, which you can use to remove the added payment methods in case of losing your device: pay.google.com/gp/w/u/1/home/paymentmethods,
• please call the phone number 01/3789 888, available 24/7.
The cardholder must inform the Bank without delay in case of theft, loss or misuse of the electronic device on which the digital wallet application with a registered virtual card has been installed, as well as about any information or suspicions concerning the possibility that an unauthorized person has learned the password or the pattern used to unlock the screen of the device, or any information concerning the possibility that an unauthorized person has had access to the digital wallet or the electronic device on which the digital wallet application is installed.
